Choosing the right voice for the right song is always of paramount importance, since it can either make or break a song. At a time when songwriting seems less and less attractive as a career, due to diminished opportunities to place songs, and the probability of much less reward for the few who are lucky enough to do so, the one consolation is that, partly as a result of that situation, there is an abundance of highly talented and skilled vocalists only too eager to lend their services to anyone who would wish to recruit them.
I am privileged to have had the opportunity to collaborate with many highly experienced and professional singers, amongst them Helene Horlyck, who is currently vocal coach to One Direction, Elizabeth Jai, who has toured as backing singer with the likes of Emeli Sande and Joss Stone, and well established actress of films and television, Emma Smith.
This year, I was back in the studio with four more very talented artists: Thomas James Longley, who, apart from singing, has also done acting and modelling, KJ, one half of London based duo Monroe, who are among the support acts to Fleetwood Mac appearing at this year’s Isle Of Wight festival, Rachael Willment, lead singer with Brighton based rock band Machete, and London rapper Selasse.
